A museum for peace

The Caen Memorial immerses you in one of the darkest periods of history in the heart of the world conflict. From 1918 at the end of the Cold War, this museum shows you the ins and outs of the Second World War to better understand the issues of contemporary conflict.

Interactive museum with film projection, permanent and temporary exhibitions, the Memorial is also designed as an instrument to promote peace. The large models illustrating the Allied Landing of June 6, 1944, will allow you to understand the difficulties of such an operation of liberation of the
Normandy, France and Europe. You will also discover the conflict that was going on in the Pacific
between the United States and Japan until the destruction of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It is also a discovery of everyday life in occupied France through exhibitions, everyday objects
and vintage posters. The Second World War is also an ideological war that has led to genocides and
population movements that must not be forgotten so that history can never be repeated anywhere.

The German point of view is also envisaged through the reconstruction of the underground bunker of the German Command. This makes it possible to understand both the strategies of the allies and the Resistance.

Then, the period of the Cold War is discussed and will capture the stakes of a war that could have been totally destructive because of weapons of mass destruction.

The Memorial is a museum on the 2nd world war, it is also a museum for peace which considers the conflicts and stakes contemporary with regard to the history that has led the world to the edge of the abyss.

The Memorial also offers Days on the Landing Beaches from Omaha Beach to Juno Beach to
the Pointe du Hoc, the artificial port of Arromanches and the remains of German bunkers spread all over the Normandy coast.
