Villedieu-les-Poêles, the first French commandery of the Knights of Malta, was founded in the 12th century by the Hospitallers of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Every 4 years, the city of copper organizes the ceremonies of the Great Coronation, in the presence of a delegation of the sovereign order of the knights of Malta.
