Saint Malo

Maclow: a Breton sailor from Wales landed in this country in the 6th century and gave his name to St Malo. Its exceptional situation and with its port St Malo became an attractive maritime city from the 12th century. Before 1520, the Falklands frequent the shoreline of Newfoundland reaching Brazil and it was by pursuing this northwestern route that Jacques Cartier discovered Canada in 1534.

Not to be missed also: the observation of "Malouinières": beautiful mansions installed in the countryside characterizing the wealth of shipowners malouins. Their austere and symmetrical architecture, the carved woodwork and the French gardens are the result of the rich past of the Corsair City, the malouinières of the Chipaudière and the Puits Sauvage can also be visited.

St Malo is the 2nd largest port in Brittany for goods and 2nd for passengers. The city is home to also 2 marinas: the port of Sablons and the port Vauban.

 

The corsair city, jewel of the Emerald Coast, is of course a nautical city, a place of departure for many sailing races including the famous Route du Rhum.

With a rich past, St Malo is a modern city of the future.

St Malo is less than an hour from our guest house located in Céaux near Mont Saint Michel. It is an ideal position to make a great excursion to the Corsair City before joining the calm and the serenity of the Bay.
